
On 17 May, H.E. Consul General Wang Yu attended and delivered a speech at the 2026 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for New South Wales Preliminary Round. Over 100 people attended, including Mayor of Strathfield Benjamin Cai, Director of the HSK Centre at the University of New South Wales Professor Wang Ping, as well as judges, contestants, teachers.
Wang Yu stated that the “Chinese Bridge” competition is not only a platform for Chinese language proficiency, but also an important window through which Australian youth can gain insight into modern China and explore the richness of Chinese civilization. He noted that, as China-Australia relations continue to improve in recent years, proficiency in Chinese will undoubtedly become a valuable asset for Australian young people pursuing their dreams. He expressed his hope that participants would deepen their understanding of China, share more authentic stories of China-Australia exchanges, and serve as ambassadors of friendship between the two nations.

After the competition, Henry Griffiths from St Luke’s Grammar School and Eva Louise Greenaway from Western Sydney University won first prize for Secondary School Student Competition and College Student Competition respectively.
