Remarks by Consul General Mr Zhou Limin at the Online Reception Celebrating the 73rd Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China
2022/09/28

Dear friends in New South Wales,

Members of the Chinese community,

Ladies and gentlemen, friends,

It gives me great pleasure to have you all online to jointly celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Over the past 73 years, China has undergone a remarkable journey and the Chinese people are gradually making the historic transformation from standing up, growing rich to becoming strong.

Over the past year, the Chinese people have forged ahead with unity and perseverance and scored remarkable achievements.

China has been adhering to the principle of "preventing case import and domestic resurgence" and the policy of dynamic zero-COVID, aimed at bringing the COVID-19 epidemic under control at the minimum social cost, so as to effectively protect the health and safety of the Chinese people to the maximum.

China's economy has shown great resilience as it grows against the odds. In the first half of this year, China's GDP grew by 2.5% year-on-year, while the total value of imports and exports of goods increased by 9.4% and the actual use of foreign investment rose by 17.4%. China's economic contribution to world economic growth has remained at the top for 15 consecutive years, with an average contribution rate of nearly 30%.

China has presented the world with a streamlined, safe and splendid Winter Olympics, and Beijing has became the world’s first dual Olympic city, having hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympics.

China has continuously improved the lives of its people, whose sense of happiness and fulfillment has continued to grow. According to a survey by the Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government on China in the last 10 consecutive years, the Chinese people’s satisfaction with their government’s performance has been over 90 percent for years in a row.

China has fully and accurately implemented the "One Country, Two Systems" policy, resolutely opposed hegemony and power politics, resolutely defended national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and has received wide support from the international community.

China has upheld the principle of mutual respect and mutual benefit in conducting external exchanges, and its circle of international friends has been expanding. We have actively put into practice the vision of a community of shared future for mankind, put forward the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, and contributed China’s proposal and ideas to addressing world challenges.

China has made these achievements thanks to the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, the self-reliance and hard work of the Chinese people, and a right path of socialism with Chinese characteristics that is in line with its own national conditions.

Next month, the Communist Party of China will convene its 20th National Congress to map out a new and ambitious blueprint for China's future development. We will continue to follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics with determination and make greater contributions to world development and human progress.

Ladies and gentlemen, friends,

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Australia. The sound and stable development of China-Australia relations conform to the fundamental interests and common aspirations of our two peoples.

For a long time, NSW has been actively strengthening friendly exchanges and practical cooperation with relevant provinces and cities in China, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both sides. In December last year, the 28th Guangdong-NSW Joint Economic Meeting was successfully held and both sides agreed to expand cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, bio-medicine and green development.

Under the new circumstances, the Chinese Consulate General in Sydney looks forward to working with our NSW friends in promoting more fruitful exchanges and cooperation between China and NSW, with a view to contributing to the improvement and development of China-Australia relations.

Since last year, overseas Chinese living in NSW have continued to work diligently and actively. They have been playing an important role as a bridge and bond in enhancing the friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides. The Chinese Consulate General in Sydney will continue to provide quality consular services to Chinese citizens, Chinese companies and organizations and Chinese students in NSW, and help them achieve better development.

Lastly, I wish our great motherland prosperity and our people happiness and well-being! May the friendship between the Chinese and Australian peoples deepen and the cooperation between China and NSW continue to grow.

Thank you!
