Deputy Consul-General Liu Kan Attended Chinese New Year Celebration in Hurstville

On January 21,2012,Deputy Consul-General Liu Kan attended the opening ceremony of the 9th Hurstville Chinese New Year Street Festival at the invitation of Councillor Steve McMahon,Mayor of Hurstville.

Mr. Liu wished all the guests a happy and prosperous Chinese New Year. He said the Chinese Spring Festival was the most important occasion for family reunion and he was very glad to see people from different ethnic communities live in harmony, which reflects the strength of multiculturalism in Australia. He believed China-Australia friendly relationship would continue to flourish with the joint celebration of the 40th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between the two countries in this year.

Traditional lion dance and other performances attracted a large audience. Numerous events including a Chinese New Year Concert Dinner, exhibition, Chinese film screenings and much more will be staged in the following month in Hurstville to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
