2011-08-31 08:37

On 29 August, Consul General Duan Jielong paid an official visit to the Council of the City of Sydney and was warmly welcomed by Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

The two held friendly talks on a broad range of issues. Mr. Duan said since his assumption of office this March he was deeply impressed by the positive role that Sydney played in promoting cooperation and exchanges between China and Australia. He mentioned the Chinese Lunar New Year Twilight Parade, a signature event of Sydney, and the Year of Chinese Culture in Australia, which will see more Chinese cultural events held in the city.

The Lord Mayor congratulated the Consul General on the good bilateral relationship between Australia and China, and happily recalled her past visits to China. She said the City Council highly valued its cooperation with China and had certainly benefited a lot from this relationship. She spoke highly of the contributions the local Chinese community made to the city.

Both agreed to work still closer to deepen the mutually beneficial relations in all fields.

Deputy Consul General Liu Kan, Consul for Cultural Affairs Zhao Li, and Councillor Robert Kok from the City of Sydney joined the meeting.
