|Consul General Duan Jielong Called on NSW Leader of the Opposition|
On May 9, Consul General Duan Jielong paid his first official call on Mr. John Robertson, Leader of the Australian Labor Party in New South Wales.
Mr. Duan thanked Mr. Robertson and NSW Labor for being supportive of stronger ties with China over the years, and the party's consistent adherence to the One-China policy. Mr. Duan noted that it has been wide consensus among people from all walks of life, and cross part lines in the state of NSW, that further growth of the relationship between China and Australia is in the fundamental interests of the two peoples. The Consul General reiterated that the Chinese Consulate General in Sydney would continue to work hard to deepen the China-NSW cooperation in fields across the board. He invited Mr. Robertson to visit China at time of his convenience.
Mr. Robertson said China has not only recorded rapid economic development in recent years, but more importantly it has become a major player in regional affairs. The Australian Labor Party took pride in the fact that it was the then Labor government under Gough Whitlam who decided to establish full diplomatic relationship with China. NSW Labor is happy to see that relationship between China and the state of NSW is strong and robust, and is always ready to work and communicate with the Chinese side to push forward this important relationship at all levels.
