2010-07-12 08:38

On Saturday 10 July, prior to Premier Kristina Keneally’s departure for China on Sunday 11 July, Chinese Consul General Hu Shan met with Ms. Keneally and her delegation at his official residence. The two had a pleasant exchange of ideas about the visit.

Premier Keneally introduced that she would officially open the Australia pavilion’s New South Wales week in the Shanghai 2010 Expo and attend some of the major promotional events. She would spend half of her six-day China visit in the Expo to promote NSW’s financial, education services and hi-tech industries.

Her tight program also includes visits to Beijing, Xi’an and Guangzhou, with official meetings with heads of local government and well-known Chinese banks and hi-tech manufacturers.

“China has obviously become increasingly important to NSW and Australia,” Ms. Keneally commented, “This will be my first visit to China as premier. I certainly wish this much-expected visit will greatly boost the bilateral business and trade cooperation between NSW and China.”

“Your visit is warmly welcomed and highly regarded by the Chinese side.” Consul General Hu Shan told Premier Keneally. He went on remarking: “In view of the heavily-loaded program, I believe that your China visit would not only bring massive exposure to NSW in China and the globe, but also push the comprehensive exchange and cooperation between China and NSW to a new high.”

Ms. Keneally thanked Mr. Hu and the Chinese side for the valuable support and assistance in preparing the visit. Mr. Hu pledged continuing assistance and wished the Premier’s China visit a major success.
